well, I finally made it up some switchbacks. the girls took a nap this
afternoon, and a buddy called at the perfect moment, so I
jumped on the ttr and headed over to the foothills road to see what he
had in mind. strawberry lake was his target. we went for it and I
can now safely say that was my best singletrack showing yet. we were
able to make the lake, but snow hampered any further progress. Only one blowdown of significance, which was fairly easy to get around. don't
have much for pics, cause I was mostly sweating and hanging on for dear
life. When we were done and back down, I thought to myself, why wasn't
I able to do that before??? On a side note I am pretty sure the guy on the horse we pulled to the side of the trail and shut down for thought we were criminals. This is an open motorized trail, we graciously shared.

River crossing to start with.

My first major switchback. It is steeper than it looks (they all say that, I know)

Made the main grade, fairly smooth sailing now.

over snow travel is legal...

Finished it off with a nice cruise home. All in all only 50 miles, 2600' gain, 4 hours. 1 of which was spent at the lake trying to spear a fish.

later.

back down them tight switchbacks had a very high pucker factor. the guy I was riding with claims down is easier, I remain undecided.

I'd give it a spin with a 13 tooth sprocket up front. I wouldn't want to leave after catching the first fish though... I've seen what that little hole can produce!
