Just found out that Shell lists the JASO MA spec on their Rotella T Tripple Protection in 15W-40, and their Rotella T6 Full synthetic in 5W-40. Rekluse recommends the non-synthetic Rotella T with their auto-clutch. Not sure why not the synthetic, but might give them a call tomorro to see if they can shed some light on that. Any how, just thought I would share a MUCH cheaper alternative to that expensive motorcycle specific oil.

About 10 years ago Motorcycle Consumer News rated Mobil 1 15w-50 synthetic as the best in a comparison test against other synthetic oils. I have been using this oil ever since. I have used it in two Goldwings and in my current DR650 with good results. This oil has an API Serice rating of SM/CF. It does not have the API Energy Conserving Symbol. Please be aware that Mobil 1 synthetic in lighter weights have the Energy Conserving Symbol and should, therefore, not be used in motorcycles with wet clutches. The Mobil 1 in 15w-50 can be found at most auto pasrts stores at prices generally lower than motorcycle specific oils.

I too, have been using the 15W-50 Mobile 1 for a while now, but thought it was nice to know that the Shell Rotella T has the same JASO MA rating as the more expensive motorcycle specific oils. This is the first I have seen this rating on a non-motorcycle specific oil.

I use rotella 15-40 in everything I own that has wheels.



How is mobil compared in price

Ive been running the 5-40 syn rotella in my 200exc 2 stroke and my 530excr for a long time now. The stuff works great and I have a rekluse in my 200. Hmmm the big brown truck just dropped off a rekluse for my 530. Ill be using the 5-40 syn in that too.
